The Motueka River is a great place for swimming and kayaking. Ten minutes drive from the house will put you at McLeans Reserve where you can kayak or take tyre tubes, and tube your way downstream to your very own driveway.
Hikers can drive up to the Mt Arthur car park, a 40 minute drive, and spend the day in the Kahurangi National Park. Abel Tasman National Park starts at Kaiteriteri where you are spoilt for choice. Walk, take the water taxis, or hire a kayak, any of the activities will surely fill in your day. The beaches here are famous for their golden sand and the views within the park breathtaking. An hour’s drive will see you at Nelson Lakes National Park, where there are more endless options to hike.
If you are getting bored, the shops in Motueka are 30 minutes away, and Upper Moutere, Tasman and Mapua 40 minutes drive .All of these places offer wineries, craft galleries, cafes and fine dining. Take home some souvenirs or simply enjoy all the wonderful food and wine that this great region offers.
